Artist Statement:

My Fine Art practice is an interdisciplinary research approach and includes: Photography and Film, Creative writing, Sculpture, Textiles and Mixed Media.

The distinctive themes, ideas and concerns that underpin current practice embrace the eco-psychological concept of nature connectedness. Increasing research, global, political and media awareness of climate change suggest a connection with the natural environment has become fragmented through time. My practice explores the materiality of a compassionate and embodied connection with nature that is mutually beneficial for the sustainability of our natural environment, health and wellbeing. Essential methodologies encompass walking methodologies and Shinrin Yoku (Forest bathing) practice. Theoretical influences embodied within the practice are New Materialism, Post Humanism, Relational Aesthetics Psychogeography and Feminist perspectives.

Nature Connectedness is a multi-faceted and is unpacked through a broad range creative processes to gather meaning. For example, I work collaboratively with the natural elements and biomorphic forms to explore creative drawing and painting processes. Assemblage, Installation, Textile processes such as Embroidery, drawing in stitch, deconstructing and repurposing fabric and materials enable me to sculpt a meaningful relationship with nature in local place. Together with photography and moving image my creative practice focuses on Nature as a relational space and captures insights into the mixed subjectivities that inhabit local place in time.
