Nature Connection in Transition Dream it.

Amidst the reality of climate change, Sukkhi Rooprai explores an embodied material connection with Nature in transition. Embracing a Post Human perspective her research is underpinned by inquiry into non-western ontologies that link identity and belonging with nature, place and movement.

The body of work reveals an emerging sense of rhizomatic connection that is experienced as material, affective, embodied, entangled, haptic, abstract, permeable and rhythmic. In constant transition and flux. Presented within it are elements of studio practice using a peripatetic methodology knotted to the everyday motions of life. Traces of momentary affect fold and unfold via peripatetic journeying through the fringes place.

The humble passenger seat on the train, folding table and carriage window morph into an temporary art studio. Travelling at high speeds, what is already known about nature becomes unhitched as it trans mutates into abstract colours, forms, patterns and rhythms. Sukkhi works with easily transportable mediums, materials and processes such as text, site audio, photography, moving image, drawing and knotting to document moments of affective mapping and connection. As this creative process extends a collection of counter-archivable works emerge in the form of Moving Image, Sculpture, Poetry, Installation, Counter mapping and Textiles.

I have a simple request…

To connect to the Shanti (a state of peaceful equilibrium) in the earth, air and waters that flow in and around me.

And through the flora and fauna I embody.

Wandering I wander …

How can I begin to plant the seeds of Shanti so that they permeate through all.

All Shanti All Shanti All Shanti.

“ It matters what

matters we use to think other maters with; it matters what stories we tell other stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what descriptions describe descriptions, what ties tie ties. It matters what stories make worlds, what worlds make stories”  -Donna Haraway
